ArticleRanks is an article submission service and link building service. It is basically a public blog network on which you can post your articles on blogs only (no article directories) and is very similar to MyArticleNetwork and SEOLinkVine, but it is a lot cheaper :) and can also give you better results in terms of rankings.

If you know me a little you know that I am a big fan of blog networks and I use them a lot to build links to a new site and bring it on page one within a few weeks or to build links to other articles on domains with PR. It is great for link volume and for non competitive keywords it can be enough to get them to rank high.

ArticleRanks was rather small about one year ago but they have increased their network a lot and I now see less difference with MAN as far as the posting rate is concerned. The size is no longer an issue, contrary to SEOLinkVine for example. And what’s more, the quality of the network is now better than other blog networks such as MyArticleNetwork (Aka Article Marketing Automation), because the sites are of higher quality.

How Does ArticleRanks Work?

ArticleRanks works in a way that is very similar to MyArticleNetwork, but you have 3 options:

1/ Free account: you can join for free, add your blog and receive free content; this will give you credits to use the network and post your own articles through the system on other blogs. You also have the option to buy credits. With this account you can promote up to 10 domains.

2/ Starter Monthly account: you can join as a paid member, in which case you pay a monthly fee, you don’t have to add a blog (you can if you want) and you can submit an unlimited amount of articles per month.  With this account you can promote up to 10 domains. It also includes other features like distribution of articles via FTP and Email, distribution of articles to social sites, and building Bookmarks into Distributed Articles. This is the option I am using and this is what this review is about.

3/ Pro Monthly account: with this account you have the same features than with the Starter account, but the big difference is that you can submit to 3 top level categories instead of 1,  and you can promote an unlimited number of domains. This allows you to build backlinks to your backlinks, meaning you can promote your BuildMyRank posts or your articles on directories, as well as your Web 2.0 properties. You also get submission of spun updates to Twitter and Facebook, as well as priority distributions of your articles.

Once you sign up as a paid member you can immediately submit an article to the network. Here is what the article submission form looks like:

You first choose the category for your article. Be sure to pick the most relevant category for higher acceptance by blog owners.

You then choose which countries you want to target with your articles; this is great for more I.P. diversity, which is good for SEO. The choice will be different according to the category selected.

Then you schedule the distribution of your article. You can choose to have it submitted from the same day you post it or anytime in the future. This is great to schedule article distribution in advance. The system will then submit your articles each and every day.

You can then copy paste a spun article in text or html version. You can include up to 3 hyperlinks in the body of each article.

ArticleRanks supports nested spinning, but it has the same spinning syntax as MyArticleNetwork:  basically, for the first level of spinning, you should use the {text ~ text} syntax, and for the second level of spinning you should use the [text | text] syntax. It is really a pain but almost all blog networks have this syntax.
My tip for spinning with ArticleRanks: just spin your article body with one level only, and your anchor texts with a second level. I have used this method and I have great results.

You can then add tags, video URLs with anchor text, and set a distribution limit if you wish to. You can then preview your article and fix any error before you publish your article.

After some time you can check your stats: how many articles have been submitted, how many times they have been presented to blog owners, how many were accepted or rejected. If your articles are unique, you can have a 95% acceptance rate. Here is what the statistics page look like:

Note: in this example I have 89 articles submitted, which have been presented 2755 times, accepted by 95% and published 1794 times. The difference between articles accepted and published are mostly publishing errors.

What I Think Could Be Improved With ArticleRanks

The spinning syntax could be improved. Having to spin articles with different syntaxes, as explained above, for 1st level and 2nd level spinning is a real pain. Having just one syntax like for example with SEO Link Vine would be a lot simpler and would enable to increase the uniqueness of the content published across the network.

Then, it would be great to have a feature that enables to control the number of articles published every day. However, according to my experience, the system seems to have a good posting rate, which enables to get ranking results in a very short time, without sending too many links to your web pages.

My Recommendation for ArticleRanks

I have had better results this year (2011) with ArticleRanks than I have had with MyArticleNetwork in terms of rankings, however for link volume MAN is still better in my experience. If you need a lot of low quality links as well as better quality ones, you might want to combine the two services. I strongly recommend this blog network.

The big advantage of Article Ranks, especially if you are just starting out and have a limited budget, is that it is much cheaper than MAN if you take the Starter package (but with this package you cannot build links to more than 10 domains, which means you cannot build backlinks to your links from articles, web 2.0, etc.). Now, if you have the budget, you’d be better off subscribing for the Pro Monthly Account, which will allow you to promote all your money sites plus build links to your links (if tiered link building is your thing, of course).
